The Back Burner

Well, I was able to finish half of May's list. However, the rest had to be put off due to preparation for the LEAH Convention. So, here are the five drawings done in May, as well as a list for June.

Abandoned:

This is a little place in Lockport, New York. It is part of the ruins of an old hotel.

Happiness:

This is my second attempt at pen and ink drawing; not so bad, I think.

Hold My Hand:

This one is my favorite! It was inspired by English Country dancing and Contra, by the gentleman asking a lady to dance and then leading her onto the floor.

Stars:

This is actaually a quilt that I am currently working on; it is made up of 56 of these blocks.

Teamwork:

Last fall, my sibilings and I started playing volleyball with a local church group. You really do have to work with your teammate and communicate if you want to win!

A Third Of The Way

I have 15 drawings to do this month, and I have five done!!!! I've made myself do one drawing a day this week, and I will continue to do so for the rest of the month. If I actually come through on that, then I will be able to finish all 15! Here are the first 5:

Vacation:

The famous Cinderella's Castle; that is just an obvious sign of vacation to me.

Cat:

Definitely not the best drawing of a cat that I've ever done.....it rather looks like a young fox or wolf.

No Time:

We've all heard those famous words "I'm late, I'm late, for a very important date!" So, in honor of the recent Alice In Wonderland movie (which was very good, by the way), I used Tim Burton's white rabbit instead of the original Disney rabbit.

Flowers:

I hate drawing flowers.....it's so tedious! I knew that I didn't want to do a normal still life of a vase of flowers, so when I thought of doing a Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt, it was perfect! The only thing I didn't realize was that drawing all the little hexagons was going to be quite tedious as well =)

Expectations:

If you've ever tried to grow a garden from seeds, you know that you have great expectations and grandeous dreams. Unfortunately, it never worked for me. But I can keep dreaming =)

On The To-Do List

Well, now I'm even farther behind. I've only gotten one drawing donce since the last post. Silence:

Some of you may know where that is. For others, that is at the Castle in Pennsylvania. In the early morning, when you sit out on the back porch, all you can hear is the fountain and a few birds. It is so peaceful!

That being said, I have six drawings from March that didn't get done. But no worries, catching up in on my to-do list. I have my Easter school break next week, so I will have lots of time to do so. April's list is as follows:

Playing With Paint

Did you know that a rainbow is almost invisible in black and white? Well, I learned that this month. It really makes sense if you think about it; after all, rainbows are just different colors of light. So, if you get rid of the color, it's just light! Because of this fact, I decided that I need to get out my paint. Here is the result:

I have a fascination with the Civil War, and Civil War reenactment, so when I saw "Gray" was one of this month's themes, I immediately thought of the gray confederate uniforms. I also love drawing portraits, so I was especially excited about this one.

Falling Behind

I had a very hard time with my list of drawings this month. I don't know why, but I could not decide what to draw. Consequently, I fell behind. I only got 5 done this month. Here they are:

Memory:

Cameras and pictures are my favorite. They preserve our memories so very well. I think my camera is one of the most important things I can bring with me to any given place!

Insanity:

This is of the Wright brother's first flight. While I don't consider it to be insane, most people of that day and time did. Whenever someone decides to think out of the box and try something radically different, they are considered to be insane. And yet, if these brothers had not tried what they did, where would we be today?

Drive:

Breathe Again:

     This one was inspired by Evan Lysacek. After his incredible long program last week during the Olympics, my sister yelled, "I can breathe again!" It was a stressful four minutes =) I don't really like how his head turned out, though.

Heaven:

This is of the 12 gems that are mentioned in Revelation 21 that make of the foundations of New Jerusalem, as well as a pearl for the gates, and gold for the streets.

Light:

This was not my first idea for light, but I loved the contrast between the bright white of the sides that the light was shining on, and the dark grey of the sides in the shadows.

Innocence:

Introduction:

These are the Japanese symbols which make up the sentence, "Nice to meet you."

Break Away:

This is my favorite. This young man has broken away from the rest of the runners who are far behind him in the top right corner and has won the race. It's also a slight nod to the Olympics, which are coming up soon!

First Of The Year

As promised, here are pictures of the first two drawings of the year. The first one is my drawing for Love. The thorns on the rose's stem cut the hand holding it, and make it bleed. But the sight and smell of the rose are so pleasant, evidenced by the slight smile of the onlooker, that she is willing to hurt her hands in able to enjoy the rose more thoroughly. This is like love; love can be painful, and hard, but the joy and beauty that comes from love is well worth the hurt.

Here is a close-up of the bleeding hand.

This next drawing is for Dark. The one main tree is being whipped in the wind of an approaching storm. That storm is shown by the large dark cloud looming in the backround.

I am very happy with how the tree turned out, but the clouds remind me of a bunch of grapes. Here is a close up of the pine trees in the bottom left-hand corner.

I am attempting to draw all 100 of these items by the end of the year. That means about eight drawings a month, and about one drawing every four days. Yeah, I'm crazy; but you know what they say, "Practice makes perfect!" I hope to see an improvement in my art skills by the end of the year. During the month of January, I will be working on the first eight items. Pictures will be coming soon!
